The other day, I was listening to one of my favorite podcasters (#mindsetmentor) and he asked the age old question: “If money was no object, what would you be doing?…” We’ve all heard it before, but this time, when I paused to entertain the question, I discovered something different: My life’s purpose is no longer an elusive ideal or a distant aim – I am living it!
It is no coincidence that I now find myself working in alignment with my deepest personal values and feeling ALIVE with inspiration day-in and day-out. It was a devastatingly painful experience of burnout that brought me here – and for that, I am eternally grateful. #Burnout was my wake-up call from the universe, an invitation to experience the full depth and breadth of my life. I had the courage to answer the call, and as Joseph Campbell states, “Doors open[ed] where there were no doors before…”
Buddhism holds that we only suffer to the extent that we are resisting our current circumstances… Perhaps your current circumstances are ushering in the existential awakening you need. Surrender the fight and breathe through the discomfort. When we shift out of survival mode, our perspective expands and we can appreciate where we are on the journey, and where the path is leading us. Perhaps burnout just exhausts the ego enough to let the soul take the driver’s seat.
Buckle up and live the wonder!
